On Saturday 8 July the Castellers de Sagrada Familia will meet with Castellers of London for an afternoon of human tower building from 2pm onwards.
The origins of this Catalan tradition of building human towers dates back to the 18th century. It is a part of every festival that takes place across the nation. Since 2010 the Human Towers of Catalonia are part of the Intangible World Heritage by the UNESCO.
Castellers of London was born in 2015 with the objective of promoting the tradition of castells in the London area by holding open rehearsals and organising special events, such as exhibitions. Many of the people involved in the group are from Catalonia, but it also includes people from a wide range of nationalities, from different backgrounds, and from all ages, as well as whole families.
